Vote for Santa Ana’s Taxfighters!

Did you know that SAUSD School Board members John Palacio and Valerie Amezcua have not put their names on any of the pro Measure I (SAUSD property tax increase) mailers? There is a reason for that! They voted to place this measure on the ballot but they know full well that the overtaxed Santa Ana residents don’t want to pay for more taxes!

The anti tax message is really resonating in this year’s Santa Ana elections. The Orange County Register endorsed two taxfighters – Ceci Iglesias in Ward 6 and Miguel “Mike” Gonzalez in Ward 2. The Register did not, for whatever reason, consider the SAUSD School Board race. If they had done so I am confident they would have endorsed me and my colleague Angie Cano – not tax-raising Palacio and Amezcua! Continue reading

20 year SAUSD School Board Member John Palacio does not want to hear from you

Guess which one of these candidates actually wants to hear from you?

After 20 years on the SAUSD School Board it is very apparent that longtime incumbent John Palacio does not want to hear from you – or anyone else in the District. Palacio did not include his phone number in his candidate ballot statement.

Good luck finding Palacio on Facebook or Twitter. He does not use any social media. For all we know he might still be using a typewriter too! Continue reading

Why does the SAUSD mistreat our local youth and adult athletic leagues?

The SAUSD owns more open space and athletic fields that the City of Santa Ana. But while other school districts in Orange County are going out of their way to share their green space with residents that is not happening here in Santa Ana.

I met recently with the head of a non-profit Adult soccer league. He explained that his players are Santa Ana residents – many in fact are SAUSD grads. As there are so few soccer fields available in Santa Ana this league has been renting fields from the SAUSD. They do this in other cities with other school districts as well – but their experience in Santa Ana has been horrible. Continue reading

Santa Ana residents are tearing down illegal Measure I signs!

Wrecked Illegal Measure I sign

The unethical supporters of the SAUSD’s Measure I, their third property tax increase in the past 20 years, have now resorted to illegally placing campaign signs on the lawns of residents – without their permission!

A retired resident in my Park Santiago Neighborhood was having none of that this morning. She actually worked in education for many years, retiring from Santa Ana College. But she has not been fooled by the Measure I campaign – “I don’t know where all this money is going,” she told me this morning. Continue reading

How is it that there is only one teacher on the SAUSD School Board?

Guess which one is a teacher?

Most school districts feature at least a few teachers – usually retired educators. But there is only one teacher on the SAUSD School Board – college professor Rigoberto Rodriguez. The other SAUSD Board Members include Alfonso Alvarez, a school social worker; Valerie Amezcua, a retired probation officer; John Palacio, a political consultant; and Ceci Iglesias, a businesswoman.

The current crop of SAUSD School Board candidates includes one teacher – Art Pedroza. The other candidates include Angie Cano, an economist and businesswoman; John Palacio, Valerie Amezcua and Cecilia Aguinaga, a Realtor. Continue reading

Palacio’s low expectations and soft racism are hurting SAUSD students

I ran into SAUSD Trustee John Palacio a couple of this this week, at an SAUSD School Board forum and at today’s State of the District breakfast, at Godinez High School. Both times Palacio repeated what has become his mantra – the SAUSD is setting records for graduations despite the fact that the district is majority Latino.

I heard SAUSD Superintendent Stefanie Phillips say the same thing today and Palacio’s colleague on the SAUSD School Board, Valerie Amezcua, often spins the same tale. All of them are engaging in what amounts to soft racism. Continue reading

Why are parents always the last to know when kids get molested at the SAUSD?

Eddy Bustamante Infante (23-years-old), a resident of Santa Ana, was arrested this Friday, Oct. 5, for Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child two years ago involving a then 10-year old girl who was involved in an after school program at Greenville Fundamental Elementary School.

Infante was an After School Instructional Provider / Teacher’s Aide at Greenville Elementary School, where he has worked since 2015. Continue reading
